Luisa Alemany is an Associate Professor of Management Practice and Academic Director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Private Capital at London Business School. She is also a Fellow at St Hugh’s College, Oxford University. She was formerly at ESADE Business School and a Visiting Professor at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. Her main areas of interest are Entrepreneurial Finance, Venture Capital, Entrepreneurial Education, Business Angels and Venture Philanthropy. She holds an MBA from Stanford University and a PhD in Economics and Business from Universidad Complutense (Madrid).

Luisa began her career at Procter & Gamble in Madrid. She subsequently worked for McKinsey & Co in Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon. Later, she worked at Goldman Sachs’ Investment Banking Division, in the venture capital fund Europ@Web and as a Senior Associate of the American private equity fund The Carlyle Group in its European buyout team.

Luisa was the director of the ESADE Entrepreneurship Institute for nine years (2009-2017) and the academic sponsor of ESADE BAN (Business Angels Network), awarded the Best BAN in Europe in 2016. She is a director on the board of Newton Venture Program, a JV between LBS and LocalGlobe to bring diversity to the venture ecosystem. She sits on the investment committee of a deep tech scaleup venture capital fund in Spain and of impact investing Oxfam EDP fund. She is an advisor to two European investors with Fund of Fund vehicles (one investing in Europe and the other in Emerging Markets). In May 2023 she launched MELBA, Middle East LBS Business Angels, in Dubai. She was part of Rising Tide Europe I and II, the first European Women-only business angels’ fund. She is a member of the Academic Board of EBAN, the European Business Angels Network.

Her research has been published in top journals, including Harvard Business Review, and she has written several books,  such as the award-winning “Entrepreneurial Finance: The Art and Science of Growing Ventures” (Cambridge University Press, 2018), the first European textbook on the topic that awarded “Most Promising New Textbook” in 2021 by TTA.   

She has taught at the Master of Science, MBA and executive education level in different programs in London, Oxford, Barcelona, Madrid, Dubai, Amsterdam, Milan, Miami, Mexico and Shanghai. She received the Best Teacher Award 2017, ESADE’s Executive Master in Finance and two of her case studies Barcelona base “Scytl” and Uganda social enterprise “Banapads” were honoured with Case Awards by EFMD.

Academic Focus

Current developments and best practices in M&A, private equity perspectives on M&A, valuation and structuring of M&A transactions and negotiations of M&A terms. Florin received the Best Teacher Award in 2021 voted by the MiF 2021 programme.

Florin has been advising companies across sectors including manufacturing, construction, hospitality and financial services.

Experience

Florin has a PhD in Management with a specialisation in accounting and finance. He sits on the editorial board of two top academic journals and has published extensively in top tier U.S. based business academic journals. He has been pursuing research on private equity topics and debt markets and is regularly invited to present his research at major business schools around the world. He has long combined his academic expertise with the practice; advising several large investment funds and serving on few advisory boards.

Jane was appointed Executive Director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Private Capital (‘IEPC’) in September 2022.

Following an education in business law, Jane spent eight years as an international credit analyst and corporate loan officer in the City of London.

After founding Business Plan Services (‘BPS’) in 1991, which helped companies for over 20 years with business planning and proposals for bank finance, business angel funds, venture capital and grants, Jane became one of the UK’s leading authorities on business planning. Jane is co-author of the leading book Successful Business Plans, appearing as a guest speaker on BBC Radio 4 on the subject as well as giving regular talks at business conferences and workshops.

Originally brought into London Business School in 2013 to leverage her experience with start-ups and extensive networks, Jane was appointed to the role of Director of the IEPC in 2018. Over the years Jane’s work across many areas of the organisation has enabled her to develop a suite of resources to support aspiring founders with all aspects of pursuing an entrepreneurial career path, from strategic planning to delivery and fundraising for growth.

Today, these initiatives sit at the core of the School’s offering for early-stage ventures that are available to the London Business School community all over the world and run out of both our London and Dubai locations. These include the Entrepreneur’s Journey series, various mentorship programmes and summer internship opportunities for those curious to explore start-up life.

For almost 10 years Jane was also the driving force behind the School’s Incubator, an entrepreneurial showcase which has evolved into a £3m programme for up to 11 teams each year, by developing a support package and space for the Incubator businesses as well as access to a full range of professional experts.

In addition, Jane launched Enterprise 100, the angel network that has been operating out of London Business School since 1999, which provides early-stage funding for many of the School’s entrepreneurial ventures.

Experience

Rubina supports the entrepreneurship community of London Business School by developing and delivering an array of co-curricular initiatives. These initiatives include talks, workshops, pitch evenings, student competitions, conferences and digital projects. Rubina also manages the on-going cultivation of key relationships with alumni entrepreneurs as well as external institutions by identifying opportunities for collaboration.

Prior to joining the Institute, Rubina worked at the University of Bath as a Digital Communications Coordinator where she launched several digital initiatives and innovative marketing campaigns. Rubina is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has a keen interest in upcoming trends in digital technologies. Rubina graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2011 with a BSc (Hons) in Business Management and has worked in academia ever since.

Experience

Eva is the Senior Programme and Communications Manager of the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, being responsible for conceiving and mapping activities to enhance its presence and profile. Eva's role is to initiate, develop and project manage the multiple outreach activities of the institute. These activities include the DeBrief newsletter, various events and award programmes. She developed London Business Schools' Real Innovation Awards programme which quickly became a highly regarded initiative with a global reach.

Eva focuses on increasing awareness of and interest in the entrepreneurship initiatives at London Business School. She is responsible for marketing and coordinating the Entrepreneur Mentor in Residence and Incubator Programmes and Entrepreneurs’ Journey events.

Prior to joining the Institute, Eva worked as a faculty assistant at LBS in the Strategy and Entrepreneurship department. Eva has also worked at various charities, where she helped organise events and assisted candidates in finding volunteering roles. She is passionate about entrepreneurship and digital marketing. Eva graduated from Plymouth University in 2010 with a first in BSc (Hons) in Business Management and she has an IDM Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing from The Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing.

Experience

Sairina is working alongside her colleagues in the IEPC to deliver the events calendar, including the Family Office Conference and the Private Capital Symposium. Responsible for all logistics and making sure every event is delivered to a high standard, using best practice and ensuring the event attendee experience is outstanding.

Sairina has over 20 years event management experience in the Charity sector, many spent in a major donor environment and special events. Her experience includes roles at The Labour Party, where she worked in the Tony Blair administration, working on the 2001 General Election and The British Red Cross and DKMS (blood cancer charity). Prior to that she worked for the not-for-profit sector organising conferences, road shows and workshops.

Sairina has a BSc (Hons) from Surrey University in Hotel Management. Her passion is events and how they have evolved over the years and how to shape them for the future.

Experience

Osman leads the Incubator at London Business School and supports the entrepreneurial programmes organized by the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Private Capital at LBS. He has advised countless start-ups and founders as a former UK director of the Founder Institute, one of the world’s largest pre-seed accelerators, and the MD at Heroes Capital.

Previously, Osman worked as the Pakistan CEO of MILVIK (BIMA), one of the world’s leading microinsurance and telehealth organizations. Osman oversaw the development and launch of BIMA's products and operations in Pakistan, which he scaled to a team of 1200 employees providing services to over 3 million customers.

He is an award-winning novelist and has written for international publications on start-up ecosystems in emerging markets. He was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2017. Osman graduated with an MBA and an MA in International Relations from Yale University.
