My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Shift from a STEM major to Finance.

About me: Having grown up in China, I moved to the UK in 2019 to pursue my undergraduate degree in Chemistry at the University of Oxford. During my first three years, I learned how the natural world operates by decomposing macro phenomena into molecular and quantum levels. In my fourth year, I focused my postgraduate research on the application of machine learning in inorganic chemistry, specifically on simulating the transformation of graphite into diamond.

Studying chemistry provided me with a unique perspective to observe and illustrate the world, both qualitatively and quantitatively. However, I envisioned my career in a more interactive and fast-paced environment, so I became passionate about the financial industry, especially sales & trading and asset management. In the summer of 2023, I interned at J.P. Morgan Markets, specializing in equity derivatives.

What attracted me to apply to LBS were the practical programme setting and the vibrant community. For students like me who wish to transfer from STEM majors to finance, the MFA programme offers invaluable opportunities to build knowledge in finance. Furthermore, the career services and networking platforms at LBS can effectively bridge students to real-world finance.

I would be delighted to share my application and work experience with any prospective LBS students. Should you be curious about life at LBS, please don't hesitate to reach out.
