My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: trying to craft the perfect essay

About me: Hi, I’m Calvin! I’m Malaysian and I applied for LBS’ MiM programme in the fourth round of the admissions cycle. Prior to LBS, I had a short 1-year stint in Deloitte’s London office in their M&A tax consulting team, advising clients on tax due diligence matters across various transactions from refinancing to restructuring. Here, I cultivated a passion in the transformation/ turnaround space, as I felt the tangible impact of helping distressed companies stay afloat. I wanted to be even closer to day-to-day management decisions, so I saw consulting as the next logical step in my career, and joining LBS was the perfect means to that end. Beyond careers, I enjoy volunteering in my free time. At LSE, I was part of Enactus, a social entrepreneurship organisation dedicated to enacting change in underserved communities, from helping the homeless to upskilling refugee mothers. In my free time, you can find me sparring on the badminton court, warming-up in CS:GO scrims, gobbling down Arôme’s pastries, or, if lucky, all three at once… Usually though, I’m a homebody but if you have questions about LBS and want to know what it’s really like to study here, then I’m more than happy to meet!

Three topics I can be approached about: Badminton, Foodie Club, e-Sports
