Andrew MacLennan

Guest Lecturer

Dr Andrew MacLennan is one of the world's leading experts on strategy execution. At London Business School, he teaches on the Strategy Execution elective and numerous executive education programmes. His work focuses on how organisations translate strategy into action and how emergent activities can be aligned to deliver strategic objectives—especially through management experimentation.

With a background in startups and consulting, Andrew now splits his time between education, research, writing and facilitation. He is especially interested in close partnerships with organisations to undertake deep case study research aimed at producing insights that are practical and valuable. He has supported thousands of leaders to design and conduct live experiments in their organisations, testing ideas and optimising performance across a wide range of activities.

Andrew has taught on executive education programmes for AIA, Arab Bank, Brenntag, Carlsberg, Clariant, Engie, First Abu Dhabi Bank, FrieslandCampina, HSBC, Husqvarna, ING, Jardines, Kingfisher, Knauf, KPMG, Mölnlycke, Nestlé, Nordea, Proximus, Prudential, Rabobank, Randstad, Sabic, Sage, Sanofi, Saudi Aramco, Suntory, Vodafone and YPO, amongst others.

Andrew is author of two books: Making Strategies Work published by Pearson; and Strategy Execution: Translating Strategy into Action in Complex Organisations, published by Routledge. His articles appear in publications from California Management Review to Forbes magazine.

Andrew has an MA (Hons) in Management and a PhD in Strategy Implementation from Edinburgh Business School, where he taught on MBA, MSc and doctoral programmes for many years and sat on the School's Doctoral Research Committee.
