London Business School (LBS) has welcomed 10 new BK Birla Scholars to its community.

Now in its fourth year, the BK Birla Scholars programme provides funding in perpetuity to 10 outstanding full-time MBA candidates each year; it is supported by a generous endowed scholarship gift from the Aditya Birla Group.

The programme honours the legacy of celebrated businessman and philanthropist Basant Kumar (BK) Birla (1921-2019, pictured).

Scholarships are awarded to LBS MBA candidates who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and uphold the ideals of integrity, dedication and service to humanity. Recipients are in the top 5% of their incoming class.

This year’s BK Birla Scholars are Sarah Von Faber-Castell MBA2024 (Germany), Aanchal Varma MBA2024 (India), Anshula Venkataraman MBA2024 (India/Australia), Alex Pike MBA2024 (UK), Parth Rajwade MBA2024 (India), Saumya Sudhir MBA2024 (India), Alisha Chowdhury MBA2024 (USA), Punit Malik MBA2024 (India), Kayla Sledge MBA2024 (USA/Japan) and Darren Gan MBA2024 (Australia).

Saumya Sudhir said she was “thrilled” to be awarded a BK Birla Scholarship.

“This scholarship enables me to maximise my time at London Business School by participating in unmissable learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. It has opened up a world of opportunities - from professional treks to exchange programmes - that will shape me into the leader I want to be,” she said.

“I am immensely grateful to the family of Mr Birla for their generosity towards students like me.”

Darren Gan said he was humbled and grateful to be joining a select group of BK Birla Scholars.

“With this generous support from (Aditya Birla Group Chairman) Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla and the Aditya Birla Group, I look forward to being an active member within the London Business School community, whilst also having the opportunity to explore a wide range of career opportunities that an MBA degree at London Business School enables.

“I am excited for the two year journey ahead as I embody the values of the scholarship, and am extremely grateful for the opportunity that this support has provided.”

The BK Birla Scholars Programme has provided financial support to 40 emerging business leaders to further their education with LBS.
